The bank not only screen all donors for an array of genetic & sexually transmitted diseases but freeze and quarantine ALL samples for a minimum of six months to ensure that during retesting of the donor(After six months) he should again test negative for HIV, hepatitis B & C and other transmitted diseases including Thallesemia. IT IS ONLY WHEN this testing reveal that donor is COMPLETELY FREE of these diseases, is his frozen sperms are released for use.
The potential risk is NOT in the use of Thawed frozen sperms. Artificial insemination however is an invasive procedure, there is always the possibility of a minor infection.
They can be safely stored for 20 years under controlled conditions.
